EMDR Intensive Therapy

My peaceful porch, where you can hear the creek babbling and see the horses grazing, is a wonderful spot to work on past trauma(s).

Much of our work together can happen on my porch, with the sounds of a babbling creek and birdsong in the background.

Do you have a traumatic past that you'd like to break free from? Perhaps you are finding it hard to forget about the trauma, or continue to be triggered by a past situation, such as abuse, medical trauma, or a traumatic birth? Even 'little t' traumas, such as divorce or infidelity can have long lasting effects. Or perhaps you have limiting beliefs about yourself that keep you stuck, such as 'I'm not good enough' or 'I have to be perfect'? If so, an EMDR Intensive could be a great fit for you. Many of my clients with these issues have felt relief after just one 4 hour session!

If you would like to break free of your traumatic past or limiting beliefs, and are able to engage in 1-3 four-hour sessions, let's connect! Most of my clients are amazed at how quickly the session goes by, and how much better they feel at the end of it. My number is 828-827-4237 and email address is wildberrytherapy@gmail.com .

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is the ‘gold standard’ treatment for PTSD. It is quite different than many other approaches to psychotherapy, in that it taps into one’s own natural healing cycle to process trauma and decrease emotional response to triggers. EMDR is an evidence-based practice for PTSD, and has shown great promise with anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. For more information about the details of EMDR, visit the EMDRIA website .

what is emdR intensive therapy?

EMDR Intensive Therapy allows you to condense your therapy and progress into a shorter time frame. Instead of going to weekly sessions for months, treatment occurs in 3-5 hour increments over the course of 1-3 sessions. Often, clients experience a lessening of symptoms after just the first day. EMDR Intensives are ideal for those who have experienced a past trauma and are ready to be free from the intrusive thoughts, triggers, body sensations, and intense emotions associated with the trauma. I use a great deal of somatic interventions in my work, to more fully process the trauma and decrease physical symptoms associated with the trauma.

EMDR Intensives are not appropriate for individuals who struggle with significant dissociative symptoms, as long term therapy has been shown to be more effective. For more information on dissociation, click here .

what does an emdr intensive look like?

We begin by identifying the target of our work, perhaps a past trauma or negative belief about yourself/the world. We can do this while sitting on my office porch, brushing the horses, or walking in the woods. After we’ve identified the target, we begin the work to process the trauma/memory/etc. for around 2 hours. This typically takes place on the porch of my office, surrounded by a creek and mountains. When it’s time for lunch, you can relax in the office, by the creek, or under a tree while you rest and eat/drink/meet your needs. When you’re ready to resume the work, we start where we left off and continue to work for another hour or two. If the issue is not fully processed, we pick up where we left off at our next session. Typically, 1-2 days is enough time to fully process an issue and greatly decrease the symptoms associated around the issue. If two days is not enough time, we will plan another day when it works with your schedule.
